DS27 Training Blog - Week 14

by Henry Coley-Fisher

This week was another slightly shorter week for DS27. We started on Tuesday after the New Year's Day bank holiday. We had a semi-internal client project for an triathlete coaching organisation. And spent a couple of days getting deeper into Tableau Server.

Tuesday: We started the week with our client project kick off call. Andy led this as we were working with his data and some other members of his triathlete team. The brief was comprehensive and the team had a lot of things to cover including race and training performance analysis, year-on-year improvements in performance, the impact of coaching, infographic style vizs and finally analysing some important and sensitive for a race team member who had a near fatal collision whilst training. We spent the rest of the day cracking on with the work.

Wednesday: A full day of Tableau server! Not much to say about this day except I really enjoyed getting to know this side of Tableau a bit more.

Thursday: Day two of of digging into more advanced concepts of Tableau server. We learned how to set up, monitor and maintain our own servers and a bit of tabcmd in command line too which is always fun! In the afternoon we had a bit more time to work on the project.

Friday: We had more time allocated for the project today, the team worked right up until the last few hours before the presentation to ensure we delivered as thoroughly as possible on the brief. I was the project manager for this week and must admit it was difficult to not be as involved in the actual work as I was on previous projects. Given the short amount of time that the team had on the project I thought we delivered a fantastic amount of high quality work. Everyone did a great job as always with our cohort and I think the client was pleased and interested with what we found.
