DS27 Training Blog - Week 12

by Henry Coley-Fisher

It was the week before Christmas… and DS27 had a great time working on a really interesting project for a financial services client.

Monday: we started the week with a kick-off call for our project. The client had worked with the DS before and we had seen the work that a previous cohort had achieved so we were really keen to deliver another successful project. The rest of the day was spent getting to grips with our datasets and planning our analysis.

Tuesday: we had another Alteryx refresher session with Nick this morning and the team chose to take another look at improving our REGEX skills. In the afternoon we had more time for project work. The team were all working from home this week which worked out well as we each had an individual dataset to work with.

Wednesday: we had the full day allocated to the project today. The team worked really hard on a complicated project which was made a lot easier by having regular open communication with the client facilitated by Viktoriia who was brilliant as our PM for the week. We had a final catch-up call today which gave everyone confidence that we were going to deliver on the brief and provide some interactive and informative tools for identifying and mitigating financial risks. We rounded off the day with a run-through of our presentation with other DS members who gave us really useful feedback.

Thursday: in the morning we had a session with Dan and PGB on commercial awareness which was very interesting and set everyone’s mind looking towards placements which are coming round fast for DS27. In the afternoon we presented our project work to the client. The team did great work this week and delivered on a comprehensive brief, we had a lot of fun and became more interested and knowledgeable about a topic we previously knew little about.

Friday: today we had the morning for self-directed study. I took the opportunity to catch up on blogs and sort out my Tableau public!
